Weed control fabric is a ground-covering material widely used in nurseries, landscaping and other projects. Woven products are commonly made from polypropylene (PP) or other suitable polymers through extrusion, tape stretching and weaving. The fabric can suppress weed growth by blocking sunlight while allowing water and air to pass through to varying degrees, depending on its structure. It can reduce manual weeding and support more efficient land management.
Watch the NUOKUN weed control fabric manufacturing process and see how our professional production equipment and carefully controlled manufacturing procedures help deliver reliable product quality. We offer flexible specifications, including different weights, widths and roll lengths, to meet various project requirements. As a manufacturer, NUOKUN focuses on consistent production quality and practical solutions for customers in different markets.
1. Raw Material Preparation and Mixing
PP resin, color masterbatch and suitable UV stabilizers are prepared to meet the product formulation and mixed in the required proportions. Consistent mixing contributes to ensuring uniform color, processing behavior and product quality throughout production.
2. Extrusion and Tape Stretching
The blended materials are fed into an extrusion system and melted under controlled temperature conditions. The molten polymer passes through a die to form a continuous film or sheet. Then, the film is cooled, slit and stretched into flat tapes with the required dimensions and mechanical properties.
3. Slitting and Warping
The flat tapes are prepared to meet the requirements of the weaving equipment. During warping, the warp tapes are arranged and placed under controlled tension to prepare them for weaving. Uniform tape arrangement, stable tension and consistent tape feeding reduce broken tapes, uneven fabric surfaces and other weaving defects.
4. Weaving
Warp and weft tapes are interlaced on weaving equipment to form the fabric structure. Weaving density, tape specifications and weaving tension influence the fabric’s mass per unit area, tensile properties, water permeability and light-blocking performance.
5. Quality Inspection
According to the purchase order and applicable testing requirements, finished fabric is inspected. Typical inspection items include tensile properties, water permeability, visual appearance and so on. Buyers and manufacturers should agree on the testing methods, technical standards and documentation format before production to avoid differences during acceptance.
6. Roll Winding, Packaging and Storage
After inspection, the fabric is wound into rolls. Roll edges, winding tightness and labeling are checked before packaging and storage. Clear product labels and batch records support transportation, installation, inspection and quality traceability.

For agriculture and vegetable farming, weed control fabric is mainly used to suppress weed growth, reduce manual weeding and support easier irrigation and field maintenance. Woven fabric with suitable water permeability and sufficient tensile strength is generally preferred. The fabric width should also match the planting layout and row spacing. For long-term outdoor agricultural applications, buyers should pay particular attention to UV resistance.
For orchards and cash crops, weed control fabric is often installed on the soil surface for extended periods. In addition to weed suppression, the fabric should provide suitable weather resistance, tensile strength and abrasion resistance. Where the fabric is continuously exposed to sunlight, a product with appropriate UV stabilization should be considered to help maintain performance during outdoor use.
For nurseries and greenhouses, the fabric needs to control weeds while providing suitable drainage and dimensional stability. These properties make it easier to move pots, trays and equipment across the covered area.
In landscaping and landscape construction, weed control fabric is commonly installed beneath soil, bark mulch, gravel or other decorative covering materials. The main selection factors include light blocking, durability, water permeability and ease of installation.
Q1: What materials are used to make weed control fabric?
A: Polypropylene (PP) is a common material for woven weed control fabric. The formulation and additives may vary to meet product requirements, manufacturing processes and outdoor exposure conditions.
Q2: Is weed control fabric permeable to water?
A: Many woven weed control fabrics allow water to pass through, but permeability varies with the weave structure, material and product design. For projects that rely on rainfall or irrigation passing through the fabric, confirm the permeability requirements or arrange testing.
Q3: How long does weed control fabric last?
A: Generally, the service life ranges from 3 to 5 years. However, service life depends on raw materials, UV resistance, sunlight intensity, installation method, mechanical wear and maintenance. There is no single service-life figure that applies to every product and environment.
Q4: What's in it for you when you choose us?
Certifications guaranteed:GB/T45001, ISO9001.
14-day lead time: Directly from our Shandong manufacturing base (FOB Qingdao).
We always conduct final inspections before shipment.
